In certain cases computational flood modelling may be required as part of the Flood Risk Assessment process. Ambiental's team of hydaulic modellers and engineers carry out flood modelling regularly to estimate flood levels directly using commercial packages such as HEC-RAS and our proprietary 1D-2D flood modelling suite: FlowrouteTM.

[ River Modelling ]

  • Computational Flood Modelling to estimate flood depth, flood extent and flow velocity;
  • Often required where modelled flood levels from the Environment Agency are unavailable or outdated;
  • Building specific, site specific or city/country wide.

[ Breach Assessment ]

  • Analysis of impacts due to breaching of river/coastal flood defences;
  • For areas benefitting from flood defences;
  • Assessment of the likely impact of a breach in defences, including flood depth, duration and velocity.

[ Overtopping Analysis ]

  • Analysis of impacts due to overtopping of river/coastal flood defences;
  • For areas benefitting from flood defences;
  • Analysis of the depth of water likely to result following an overtopping of nearby flood defences.

[ Surface Water Runoff Calculations ]

  • Calculation of greenfield runoff rates;
  • To inform attenuation strategies;
  • Essential for the implementation of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS).
